Summerdale House is located in Shotley Bridge , one of the most picturesque large villages in County Durham 's undiscovered Derwent Valley, less than 35 minutes' drive from either Newcastle or Durham city centres. Shotley Bridge boasts a variety of local shops and services including a bakers and post office, whilst neighbouring Consett has well know high street names, supermarkets and leisure facilities.

Summerdale House is in a sought after area of the village, where the neighbourhood is characterised by tree lined avenues and fine Victorian and Edwardian villas. The house dates from the late 19th Century and was originally commissioned by a wealthy Victorian industrialist. The building has a façade in the neo-Gothic style and boasts generously proportioned rooms, a typical feature of houses built in this period.

These large proportions have allowed eleven spacious apartments and one separate townhouse to be created from the original building.
